Order Process
What is resolution and how big can I print my pictures?
Untitled Document
The resolution of your pictures is determined by your camera at the time the picture is taken. The image can only be compressed or made smaller after this time.

If an image has been emailed, chances are good the email application compressed the image prior to sending it. This means the image will not turn out well if printed.
The Fast, or Fastest upload speeds offered on the "Add Photos" page will compress your images slightly to allow for faster upload times. Provided your original image is large enough, "Fast" allows your image to print up to an 8x10 print, "Fastest" allows up to a 4x6 print, and "Regular" allows whatever size the original image will allow.

How do I crop the pictures in my order?
Untitled Document
You can crop your pictures during the checkout process, or in "Edit Tools." For information on the "Edit Tools" please see the FAQ "Can I edit my images using your sevice?"
The three cropping options available through the site during the checkout process are "Auto," "Add white space," and "Manual."
Option 1, Auto crop: This option automatically crops your images. This is our most popular cropping option.
Note: If there are important elements, such as the head of your subject, close to the side being cropped, the elements may be lost.
Option 2, Add white space: This option shrinks the image so that the largest side fits on the paper. The empty spaces that are left by the smaller dimensions are then filled with white ink.
Option 3, Manual: This option allows you to view the crops and adjust them manually. This is the only option where you can preview the cropping before the images are submitted for printing.

When can I expect my order to be complete?
Untitled Document
The time it takes to complete your order depends on the product and the store location.
Some stores can create prints and gifts on-site, which allows them to offer 1 hour pick up for prints or next day service for gifts.
Other stores do not have the machinery to print in-store. Orders placed at these stores are generally available within 3-5 business days.
Gift orders take longer to process and are usually only available as ship to home items. The processing time varies per gift item and is listed for the individual gift through the orange "Gifts" tab.

How do I change the quantities in the cart?
Untitled Document
-
The images you selected in "My Photos" are dropped into a well in the cart for easy access. Select the images you wish to order in a particular size, finish, and quantity
-
Under "Step 2," choose the size, finish, border option, and quantity you want for the selected images and click “Add to Cart”
-
You can use these steps to order different sizes and quantities of particular prints. Just select the images in groups. For example, if you want 4x6 prints of some images and 5x7 prints of others, choose the ones you want in the 4x6 size first. Make your print option selections and click “Add To Cart.” Then select the images you want in the 5x7 size, make your print option selections
and click “Add To Cart”
-
This also works for different quantities for separate images. For example, if you want 4 copies in the 5x7 size for several images, but only 2 copies of others, select the ones you want 4 copies of first and add them to the cart. Then select the ones you want 2 copies of and add those to the cart. If you change your mind about the quantities, you can edit them in steps 5 and 6
-
Repeat steps 1 and 2 for any other sizes or quantities you want
-
Once you have finished selecting the sizes and quantities, your choices are listed in "Step 3." Your images are grouped by print size. For your convenience, a thumbnail preview of each image is displayed with the quantity listed below it in parentheses. You can edit the quantity for the size group as a whole, or choose a specific image and edit the quantity for just that image
-
To edit the quantity of all the images in a group:
-
Click the “edit item” link located above the thumbnail previews
-
This brings up a box that allows you to edit the size, finish, border option, and quantity of prints. Please remember, this method applies your changes to all the images in the size group
-
To edit the quantity of a single image:
-
Under the size for the image you wish to change, click on the thumbnail preview or the quantity of the image. This will bring up a box listing the size for the image you are editing, a preview of the image, the image name, and the quantity you currently have selected
-
From here you can enter a new quantity and select “Update,” which will return you to the advanced cart with the new quantity. You can also click “Cancel” to return to the cart without changing the quantity or click the “Remove Image” link at the bottom of the box to delete the image entirely from that size
-
Once you have the sizes and quantities chosen, click “Checkout Now” located at the top and bottom of the page

What is Aspect Ratio?
Untitled Document
Aspect Ratio is the size (width x height) of the image. The aspect ratio tells a lab technician what size(s) the image can be printed without requiring cropping. For example, an image with an aspect ratio of 4x6 can be printed at 4x6, 8x12, 12x18, etc without any cropping, because 8x12 and 12x18 are the same ratio as 4x6.
Many digital point and shoot cameras now capture images in a 4.5x6 ratio. This means that most digital images taken with a point and shoot camera will need to be cropped slightly.
For more information on cropping and cropping options available on the site, please read the question, "How do I crop the pictures in my order?"

How do I specifiy the order of my images within an album?
You can sort your images in alphabetical order, reverse alphabetical order, by date newest to oldest, and by date oldest to newest. If you need your images in a specific order, you will need to name then with numbers in front of the name.
For example, to get photos named Icons, Images, Photographs, Pictures, Previews, and Thumbnails in a specific order, you would need to name them 001Previews, 002Images, 003Icons, 004Thumbnails, 005Photographs, and 006Pictures. This numbering system would allow you to organize up to 999 images. If you need more, add another 0 to your numbering scheme.
Our system currently does not recognize numbers without a place holder, ie 1 would be set under 1, 11, 12 and 2 would be between 19 and 20.

How long does it take for an order to be completed?
Untitled Document
Before your order can be shipped, it must be created. Every item we offer is customized with your unique photo. While we have all the raw materials on hand, we must get your photo on the product of your choice. The time it takes to produce your item is called "processing time."
In-store print orders can be completed in as little as an hour. Processing time for in-store orders depends on how long it takes to get your images down to the store (larger or more numberous photos means this process can take longer) and how many orders the store receives that day. For estimates on when your order can be picked up, please locate your local store's number on our "Locations" page.
Shipped print orders generally take 1-3 days to process. In addition to processing time, you must account for the shipping method you chose during the checkout process.
Gift orders depend on the processing time for the gift ordered. The processing time for each gift is located under the orange "Gifts" tab, on the page for your particular gift. That time plus the shipping time is how long it takes for your gift to arrive at your home.

Where is my shipping information? It is not on my PayPal receipt.
When you order online and pay via PayPal, you will receive two receipts via email. One receipt is from PayPal, and it lists your payment details. The other receipt is from this site, and it lists your order details and shipping info (if applicable).

I'm having trouble accessing the uploader on my Mac
Untitled Document
If you have clicked "Don't Trust":
If you clicked "Don't Trust," your Mac will not allow you to add pictures to your online account. To fix this, please do the following:
Go into your hard drive and go to “Applications” and then into “Utilities”
Once in your computer’s utilities folder, click on “Keychain Access”. In this window you should see a list of web addresses come up

Find the web address for your online account site. For example it may say "www.lifepics.com" along with the e-mail you use to log in with next to it in parenthesis
Delete the entry by right clicking on it and selecting delete or hitting the Control key in conjunction with the mouse click and choose delete that way
Once this is deleted you should be able to go back to the upload page and the site should ask you to "Trust" or "Don't Trust" again
Click "Trust"
Follow the directions in the FAQ "How do I upload from iPhoto?"
We have been informed by Apple that this will not affect security for any other site but the one you choose "Trust" for and will not compromise the security of your computer when online.

If the information bar does not come up:
Please make sure the pop-up blocker is off so you can receive the directions for installing the "Active X" controller. To check if the pop-up blocker is on please do the following:
Go to the "Tools" menu for the Internet Explorer browser window
Choose "Pop-up blocker"
Click on "Turn Off Pop-up Blocker"
*If there is no "Off" option it is already off
You may also need to check any Google or Yahoo add-on tool bars you have installed. The pop-up blockers for these tool bars generally appear as an icon on the tool bar that has a red circle with a diagonal slash through it. These pop up blockers can be changed by clicking on the icon.
If the Deluxe uploader does not install, but you were able to click on the information bar:
This is usually caused by the firewall settings on your computer and internet connection. You will need to work with your administrator to adjust these settings to allow you to load the Deluxe uploader. If you are on a work computer, you will need to speak with your IT department.

I'm having trouble uploading from iPhoto
iPhoto adds an element of confusion to uploading. The high resolution, original images are only stored in the "Originals" folder of the iPhoto Library. If the image is uploaded from a folder created by the user, it will only send a thumbnail version of the image. Thumbnails only display properly at a 1 inch by 1 inch size on a computer. For directions on how to upload from iPhoto, please see our FAQ "How do I Upload from iPhoto."
